Members of the Orlando Regional Realtor Association sold nearly 5 percent more homes in November than they did a year ago, as prices continued to drop to levels not seen since 2004, which has made more homes more affordable, the trade group reported Wednesday.

November’s median sales price of $167,025 for all the homes, condos and town homes sold in the core Orlando market was down nearly 29 percent from last year’s November median of $234,900, and off about 5 percent from this year’s October median. The local median price — the dollar amount at which half the properties sold for less and half sold for more — is now lower than at any time since April 2004, when it stood at $163,000.

While I was reading my feeds yesterday, I came across an idea that while it was simplistic in nature, it just smacked me in the forehead. Over at ProBlogger, Darren Rowse wrote a commentary about developing a twitter landing page. I thought it was an amazing idea which is very commonly done, but not using social media.

A landing page is generally used to give added information based on how the reader got to that page. Darren used this and took it a step further for Twitter.

Good business sense of course. What Darren has done was take the stance of someone who starts to follow him on Twitter or someone who looks at his profile. Logically, they want to know more about him and what he does. Makes sense to me. We’re going to analyze his landing page to see how we can make our own.

First of all Darren says hello to the reader. I like this because it makes the person feel as though they truly are welcome to know more about him.

On his page is a medium sized very good looking picture of himself. His picture now gives a face to the text. This once again strengthens we are reading words from a human. I believe sometimes we forget the words don’t just pop into cyberspace by themselves.

He gives us his name and tells us the website and twitter account. Sometimes stating the obvious isn’t such a bad idea. I find it quite cool actually. Most of the time if you click a link in someone’s profile, it goes to some random site, which just could be a favorite site. I actually encountered someone who had msn in their profile, which we know that isn’t their site.
* Getting a bit personal
So Darren then tells us how old he is, where he lives, and that he is married to “V”. This once again strengthens we are talking to someone real. While some shy away from putting anything personal on their blog, I think it only adds to the package ProBlogger offers its readers.
* Link Love
Now I thought this was a bit clever if you ask me. He lists all of the blogs he owns. This serves two purposes, first it allows him to link out to the other ones, therefore spreading some well earned page rank, but it gives the reader more places where he can be found.
* Where Am I?
Darren then goes on to talk about ProBlogger and what it offers its readers. In my words it says “Heck, while you are here check out what this blog is about.”
* Where did I come from?
Since his audience for this page came from Twitter, Darren then explains what he does on Twitter. I think this is kinda cool. He tells you what you can expect from his tweets.
* All my other cool stuff

If you don’t, based on your aperture’s setting, the depth of field could result in a sharp picture of the tip of the nose while the rest of the face is slightly out of focus.
Having the subject staring directly into the camera, is typical with portraits. However, some of the most striking pictures have your subject(s) looking elsewhere.
For example, consider:
- Your subject staring intently at an object that can also be seen in the same picture
- The subject looking at something outside what can be seen in the picture
- Two subjects looking at each other
Taking Candids
If you’ve ever met anyone who states: “I don’t take good pictures,” posing them could be a challenge.
Instead of giving up, take the necessary time to learn about and relate to the subject. Once they give you their unspoken approval, taking candids can have spectacular results. I personally find this approach works best with very young children.
Backgrounds
Let’s face it - the subject in your portrait should be more interesting than the background. If not, make the background the focus of the shot. With that said, you can use backgrounds in different ways.
To make the background as invisible as possible, use as large an f-stop as your camera allows (F/2.0, for example). This will cause your background to be blurry and therefore help your viewer focus their attention on the subject.
Expressions
For some portraits, the expression of your subject says it all. It’s easy to capture extreme expressions when taking candids of children. Unfortunately, it generally takes more time, work, and effort (from the photographer) to elicit the same type of true emotions from adults.
Using Props
There is always a little risk when adding a prop. On the plus side, you can improve your photograph by adding another point of interest that draws your viewer in.
On the downside, the prop can take too much interest away from your subject. This is one of those areas where common sense and experience are your best teachers.
